Ask Your Own Question about Social Security Disability

If you live in a state other than North or South Carolina In that case, please click here to visit our forum. Look around to see if your question has been answered, and if not, you can ask it there.

If you live in North or South Carolina we can afford to spend some more time with you, to answer your question personally. There are several ways you can contact us if you live in the Carolinas.  •You will probably get the most complete answer if you call us Call us toll free at 1-800-775-3985. Between 8:30-5:00, Monday through Friday, we will answer immediately; after hours and on weekends leave a message and tell us when we can reach you. We can usually give you a higher quality answer if we find out certain things about your situation, and a telephone call is the best way to do that. If your question is urgent, this is the only safe way to contact us.

As an alternative to calling us, during some portions of the work day you may also chat online with a live operator. If we are on line, the message beside the image below will say, "Live Help Online -- Click for Live Support." If it says this, click on the image, and a pop up window or new tab will open; click on that window or tab and answer the questions and you will probably be connected with a live operator at our office. If the image says, "Live Help Offline -- Click to Leave a Message", or if there is no response, leave a message and we will email you a response.

Live Help

Live help has a few quirks: If you do not allow pop-ups, your browser might not be able to put up the pop-up box or new tab. If this happens you can go to the buttons on your navigation toolbar at the top of your screen and enable pop-ups. If the browser shows us as being online and you can't get a response, you might be looking at old news: try refreshing your screen by clicking on the circling arrow at the top left of the screen; the screen might then show that we are actually gone. Finally, sometimes we have to step away from our computer, and we might not log off. If you can't get us, send an email or leave a message.

•You can e-mail us Just Click here to send us a short question by email If you do this, please remember to tell us what city you live in!

But wait! I can often give a very limited answer to an email, because you don't tell me enough about your situation for me to give a high quality answer. I show you what I need to know in order to tell if you have a good chance at a disability claim in our form, below; and if you want a higher quality answer about that sort of question, use the form instead.

Who is answering these questions, anyway? I am Paul McChesney; I am an attorney who has been practicing Social Security law for about 25 years. For more detail about who I am, or if you have a question about who we are, please click here.
