My daughter is 8 months pregnant and the doctor put her on bed rest.
Her employer does not offer any maternity pay. What programs are
available in NC to supplement her income until she returns to work? She
is unhappy about not working but knows doctor did it for the Babys
health. I'm her Mom and live in Calif where the benefits are very different. |

Gail, I am sorry that I don't know. Social Security Disability and SSI
are generally available only for conditions that are expected to last a
year. There well might be other programs. |

Is there any provision for pregnancy disability? I am currently
working, and once I deliver it will be extremely difficult to pay my
bills but I want to take some time off to be with my newborn. |

Theresa, not in the Social Security system. To get Social Security
Disability or SSI , your condition must be expected to last a year. |

My
daughter-in-law is 6 months pregnant and her employer offers no
maternity pay and only 6 weeks off after the baby is born. Don't
employers have to provide at least 12 weeks leave time under the FMLA
guidelines? Does North Carolina have any State disability benefits that
she can collect while out on maternity disability? |

I
am not sure. Normal pregnancy cannot be the subject of a Social
Security disability claim, since it lasts less than a year; I only know
a little about the other questions you ask, and would not want to
mislead you. Keep searching. Take care. |

I am 3 months pregnant and I have a disease called IGA Nephropathy. It is basically a degenerative disease of the kidney. I have had it for about 4 years now. I am seeing a team of specialists throughout my pregnancy, which is considered very high risk and have been advised by my doctors not to work at all during my pregnancy. There is a significant risk that the pregnancy will also cause my condition to worsen temporarily even after the baby is born. The doctors say any damage done to my kidneys during the pregnancy will be reversible, but they say it could take several months after the baby's birth for me to regain my current level of kidney function. My not working is causing a huge financial strain on my family. Is there anything the state of SC will do to help? |

Hi. I am about to undergo a procedure called a 'cerclage', where my cervix will be stitched close so I don't have another pre-term delivery (loss). I know I have to be out of work for at least a week. Depending on my recovery, I may need to be on strict bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy (6 months). I have worked at the same place for over 4 years. They offer Short term disability, FMLA, all that stuff. I was wondering if I am entitled to any sort of unemployment or disability benifits if this is the case??? |
