I
have recently, after years of problems, been diagnosed with a bladder
disease called interstetial cystitis. This condition leaves me having
the frequent urgency to urinate often with nothing. It also affects my
legs, in which sometimes I can hardly walk . I have to miss work when
this flares up. I am 26 years old, and have had the same job for 6
years . Please help me in anyway possible. Let me know what to do first
. Reply by Paul With this particular disease, I would
immediately hire an attorney and I would sit down and have a long talk
with my doctor. Some doctors are more sympathetic to this disease than
others. Be sure he or she is 100% behind you. The Administration can be
a little hostile to certain diseases as being disabling, which is of
course not fair, but is true. Severe cystitis can be very painful.

At http://www.disabilityfacts.com
, you can order publications written by attorney Douglas Smith. At this
website, there is one publication that specifically outlines what
documentation is required to prove disability on the basis of
interstitial cystitis. |

According to the book "Nolo's Guide to Social Security Disability: Getting and Keeping Your Benefits"--- "If
you have IC, clearly and fully document the nature of your symptoms and
exactly how those symptoms limit your ability to function. Your
treating doctors must be able to support your allegations, along with
your treatment failures or successes." |

"The
most debilitating cases of IC might be considered of equivalent
severity to Listing 6.02, although the kidneys are fine. Other cases
might sufficiently limit your ability to perform particular types of
jobs and qualify you on a medical-vocational basis." (from "Nolo's Guide to Social Security Disability: Getting and Keeping Your Benefits") |
