I am 49 years old. No clerical skills, only a GED. I
have medical restrictions and limitations with both of my hands and
wrist due to chronic pain.Typing, driving, writing and everyday
activities is very difficult for me.I am able to think for myself. I
have always done repetitive, production, assembly-line and machine
operator typy work. How does this hurt or help me with disability? |

Tom, this is the kind of question that can be answered better on a forum than the usual question, "will I win my case?" If
you do not have transferrable skills, cannot perform your old work, and
are limited to sedentary work; that is, a limitation to lifting 10
pounds, and a limitation to standing and walking for about 2 hours
during 8, once you become 50 it gets a lot easier to win a disability
case. Of course you must not only be so limited, but also be
able to prove it; this is the trouble that most people have, and don't
expect. Whatever your doctor says, will the doctor they send you to
agree? Will any doctor even mention your problems? If you can
stand and walk all day, the question is more difficult. In that case,
you probably, but not certainly, will have to show that you cannot
perform fine or gross manipulation with your hands; think of a crossing
guard, for example, who only has to do this occasionally. In
general, you have to show that you are limited to jobs that do not
exist in "significant numbers." What are a "significant number" of jobs
is a very tricky question. |

hello,
I am a 42yr old female, who has fibro, cfs, degenerative disc disease,
arthritis, depression and borderline personalily disorder, also have
bone spurs in both heels, IBS, and severe menstral cramps, I have tried
varios anti imflammitories and take muscle relaxers and pain meds
constantly, most meds upset my stomach. I also have several other minor
conditions such as restless leg syndrome. I was fired from my last job
(clerical) when my dr. wanted me to go for muscle stimulation therapy.
I had gone to work that day, left for my dr. appt and when I returned,
showing my employer his paperwork they fired me. I then lost my heatlh
care and was unable to have any treatment until I finally got health
insurance from the state and the state has considered me disabled. I
recieve health care and food stamps, I haven't worked since i lost my
last job in 2001. I filed for soc. sec. in 2002. and obtained an atty
at my appeals state, 1yr later, my hearing is coming up in 1 month and
my question is, what can I do to help my win my case. Or do I even have
a chance at winning. My lawyer is vague and busy, but said she would do
her best to win. I just want to know another option as to my chances of
winning my case. I see a rheum, go to a pain center, I see a counselor
for depression, and am starting phys therapy for den. disc disease, and
also starting back to a chiro for my arthritis in neck. I am limited to
driving only to short distances and can only sit or stand for short
periods of time, till the pain increases to unbearable. I live in a
rural area, 1hr each way to major city. any info you could give me
would be greatly appreciated. |

I
cannot give advice to folks with attorneys, and whatever I say would
probably be less accurate than what somebody who has the medical
records in front of them could say, anyway. But good luck to both of
you. Take care. |
