My grandson was diagnosed at age 10 as emotionally impaired, depression, oppositonal disorder, ADHD. In school he is special ed, with an IEP. My daughter, his guardian, is low income, the father of my grandson has never been involved and does not pay child support. My grandson has struggled in school,is 16 now, is a junior in high school and has 6 credit hrs. toward graduation with a GPA of .6. We have had to commit him for psychiatric treatment twice over the past two years. We have just learned he has been using marijuana and other illegal forms of drugs. We have placed him in a residential treatment center, both for therapy and drug use. He does receive state medicaid insurance. Does this sound like criteria justifying a social security disability case and where do we begin? I called social security and my daughter has an appointment to talk to them but we are desperate and do not want to make mistakes and risk hurting our chances. What do you think? Thank-you |
