my husband of three years was married before for 10 years . when and can his ex wife claim his social security benefits if he is alive. And if he died tomorrow will she be able to claim his SS when she is 62? where does that leave me when I am 62. please help me

Don't worry; anything she gets will not reduce your benefits.

Why? In calculating benefits for you, the rules act as if the ex-spouse does not exist. In calculating benefits for her, the rules act as if you do not exist.

Why? Not sure; maybe to try to help keep the peace between spouses and ex-spouses.

my mother is 67 years old and draws $164 in social security (retirement) and $400 and something a month in SSI. She is thinking of getting married and her fiance draws $700 a month in social security (retirement). If she gets married will her SSI check be reduced or cut out? And can she get SSDI instead "she is disabled"
