South Carolina Resources for the Disa...

Social-Security-Disability-Forum » South Carolina Resources for the Disabled

This section will primarily help people from South Carolina who have long term disabilities. I eventually hope to get resorces posted for each county, and there is a section for statewide resorces.

Please be sure to add comments as you get experiences with different resources, and to add the names of any resources you discover.

I'm wondering if someone already receiving SSDI and MediCare can also get state medicaid to fill the gaps. I am living in CA right now and have MediCal and MediCare, but I'll be moving to SC later this year, and I'm trying to find what I'm in for.

Thank you. :)

South Carolina has Federal Medicaid and Medicare. It does not have any seperate state program. Medicare is standard nationally, but Medicaid benefits vary somewhat from state to state.

I HAVE A 9 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO IS IN THE 2ND GRADE FOR THE 2ND TIME AND IS STRUGGLING TO PASS 2ND GRADE AGAIN. I REQUESTED GREENVILLE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT A-TEAM TESTING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. JUST RECENTLY THE SCHOOL EVALUATED HER AND DENIED HER HELP IN HER EDUCATION. IN THE MEAN TIME SHE IS FAILING 2ND GRADE AGAIN AND THEY ARE PLACING HER IN THE 3RD GRADE.
GREENVILLE COUNTY SCHOOL DIST6RICT HAS FAILED MY DAUGHTER AND I NEED HELP TO GET HER HELP IN HER EDUCATION.

If you think that there is something the school could be doing but is not, you can try toget one of the protection and advocacy groups to look at the problem. You could start with:

Louise Ravenel, Executive Director
SC P & A System for the Handicapped, Inc.
3710 Landmark Drive, Suite 208
Columbia, SC 29204
(803) 782-0639; (800) 922-5225 (In SC)

A good set of South Carolina resources for the disabled child can be found at FETAWEB for South Carolina

The site also has national information. See FETAWEB.

But of course you also need to research resources that you can use yourself to help your child.
