Hey, I'm not perfect. If I'm not pretty sure of the answer I might put the question here until I get time to do some research, or perhaps someone very smart will come by and answer. Let me know if you are desperate.

I have been out of work for 1yr. and 3 mos. I drew my unemployment for the first 6mos. Since that time I have not worked at all. I have emotional problems and svere neck injury that keeps me on meds.

The problem I have to receive my benefits seem to be associated with my 401k from previous employer.
However the company policy is that no benefits are available until you have been separated from the co. for a period of 5 years. I left the co. july 1999. Have you seen this type of problem?
thank you

I assume that you have applied for and are receiving Social Security Disability benefits. If not, you should seriously consider applying.

I am not a great expert on 401K problems. I do encourage you to look elsewhere; or perhaps someone else can answer this question.

Hello,

I was a payee for an SSI recipient (a close friend with no family in the area) who died in October,2001 in North Carolina. During most of 2001 when he was very ill, I found it necessary to help him out quite a bit monetarily from my own funds (out of simple humanity...SSI payments for a very sick person are in amounts that are absolutely inhuman) ... probably in excess of $2000. My husband wants us to file this as an exemption on our 2001 taxes. I suspect that if had I filed this while he was alive (had he lived), it would have jeopardized his benefits, but I have no earthly idea of what 'doing this after the fact (his death)' would produce????

I am sorry; that is really a tax question, and I have a hard enough time answering questions about disability. I will put this in the "hard questions" catagory for others to consider. Take care.

P.S. It's me again, skeezerbeans. I forgot to say that I live in Florida now. The Company I did work for is in SC. Also, is there some sort of easy to follow book on what to do when you become disabled, Like "disabilities for dummies" or something like that?

Paul, I don't understand how some people are just "handed" ssd and here I am fighting for mine, in which I have given up hope of receiving b/c I was turned down by the appeals council. There is no way that I could hold down a job when my condition is getting worse each week. I was dx with a winged scapula, fibromyalgia, arthritis and now have CFS. What can I do now?
