For Mr. Paul McChesney: I posted a message on June 30th of this past week. I've been looking for a reply without success, and I think the reason is that I posted it in the wrong forum--it is under a topic referring to which states might provide the best disability benefits, but my questions have nothing to do with that topic. Can someone move it to a more appropriate area, for a reply from Mr. McChesney for me? Thanks so much. Incidentally, I forgot to say in my original message that I live in Arizona. Thank you..... Reply by Paul You have not received a reply because I have a lot of briefs to get out. Sometimes I fall behind. I need help with this thing; I am working on getting it. If it helps you, and you have time on your hands and a computer, email me and volunteer to help and I will be able to help others better. Don't think you don't have enough skills. If you were smart enough to find this site, you are smart enough to help some. I will check that forum for your message. |

I'm convinced the most important factor in winning a SSD case is choosing an experienced, successful lawyer.I did and won, after six years, for a case that probably was not that easy to win....[ CFS and depression ] I was so worn down by the process, the years of waiting, the anger of having to fight the system.I'm not feeling sorry for myself..to the contrary,I just want to stress to those out there that rightly deserve benefits..DONT give up. The Government should not put their citizens through this garbage. There is a better way and that is for the government to approve or disapprove every case within a few months.Gather the info on the claimant, have competent medical advisers on staff, and made a thoughtful, correct decision....end of case.No politics,no BS,no endless runarounds.I'll not hold my breath until that happens. I'm certainly not a shill for attorneys...BUT, without a really good one...well, good luck! |

I finally found out the status of my disibility claim.Over the past two years I've kept all letters from SSI thinking I might need them.I've contacted my attorney,(no help) I contacted my U.S.Rep.(of little help) I got my paper work out and found the ph. for off. of appeals in Chicago it also had name of ALJ of they ask his name when I called, funny thing the judge just happened to sign the order today.(Point being keep everything you get from SSI for future ref.and I think you can do a lot of the leg work yourself phoning etc.) |

TO: Les Stewart; I retired from Firestone in 1995,I was only 51 and not ready to quit work so I got custodial job locally. It was covered under ILL Municipal Retirement Fund.I had some knee problems but along the way I was diagonosed with Parkinsons Disease in 1999 Feb. stroke in sept 99 and also found found out I had some herniated dics in neck around the same time.In sept of 2000 I had my left knee replaced,I am now waiting on knee replacement on my right knee.Iwas to have surgery next week however i had to have a chest xray and they found some heart problems.I Live in Ill.and I first applied for ssi disibility and disibility from IMRF July 2000 Imrf flat denied me,SSI denied me twice and I had to have a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge on Jan.14 2002 at which time the judge granted me disibility.I thought that since he approved my claim that day I would get immediate action, two months past,I called my Rep. office was told I'll find out and call right back.(NO CALL BACK) My LAWYER won't return my calls. So I called the Hearings off. in Chicago and it just so happened the order was signed yesterday. You can't hurry them up,they want you to give up,but call every once in awhile.Keep all mail you get from ssi don't give up.When ssi sends you paperwork to fill out be sure and fill it out in detail. It took m,e 21 months to get my dicision and I still havn't got any money.I think most everybody is turned down the first two times, you'll have go to haearing probably. Bill Boss Decatur ILL. |

Hello Everyone, First of all I want to say that I am not an Attorney nor do I work for one or have any close friends that are one. I just got my "Fully Favorable" decision letter in the mail last week. I won my case....after three years! I was found disabled as of four years ago. Now, I went through the first application phase and I was denied. I then requested a reconsideration. (I think they might be doing away with this phase). Anyway, S.S. lost my file for 9 months! They said they didn't have evidence I sent in...Everything from doctor's letters to a big bag of empty prescription bottles. It was insane! They denied me at that level too. I finally got a lawyer. It took one year and four months before I got a hearing date with an Administration Law Judge! It then only took 60 days to get my favorable decision in the mail. I am told it could take another 60 days to get my money, but I did it! Don't let them turning you down in the first two phases discourage you. You really need an Attorney to help you at this point. It is so worth the fee and the wait. Keep on trying and don't get too frustrated. If you really have a disability that prevents you from working then you deserve your benefits! By the way, I have Multiple Sclerosis and Degenerative Disc Disease and they found me disabled on both diseases. Also, the hearing is not nearly as scary as you might think. The Judge did ask me to speak, but I was just totally honest and I just told myself speak as if you are talking to a doctor and telling him what is wrong with you. That seemed to calm me down. The hearing lasted about one hour. That is about it. I just felt I had to tell my story here. I hope I gave someone some hope and strength to keep on fighting! Gail |

Thanks Gail, Hearing that lifted my spirits. The waiting gets old in a big hurry. Where are you Gail? What state? Where did you go for your ALJ hearing? |

Hi Les, Sorry this is a late reply. I kept checking to see if anyone responded, but no one did right away so I haven't been back in a while. Anyway, I live in California. The office that was handling my case said they were so busy that they had to get a judge from up North. I went to the Federal Building in the Westwood office in Los Angeles for my hearing. I guess they are just swamped here. Where do you live? Hang in there. It has been a month since my favorable decision and I haven't even received an award notice yet, let alone my money. I expect it will take another month or two for that to happen. It seems like forever. Hang in there though....like they say, good things come to those who wait! Take Care, Gail |

Thanks Gail, I hope you get your funds coming in soon. I thought maybe you were here in the Carolinas, I live about 25 miles south of Charlotte,NC. Everyone that I talk to in this area say it takes forever to get anywhere with SSA. |

Hi Les, You know the part that is killing me the most? It is waiting for my award notice and the money these past few months! I have waited over 3 years and you would think I would be use to it by now, but I don't think you can ever get use to waiting and suffering like this! I think it is just terrible how they make people who are disabled wait so long for their behefits. If you had a terminal illness you would be dead by now! Sorry, but it just gets me upset. Anyway, good luck with your case and I hope yours goes a bit faster than mine. Gail Still waiting in California |

Don't give up Gail, you will get it some day. Are you doing alright? Have you ever delt with Workers Comp? They will actually stall and wait for you to die if you have a terminal illness. Send me an email, plantman48@hotmail.com Good luck and I hope your wait is short. Les |
