My god-daughter (age 32) lives in NYS. Her mother and stepfather were transients most recently living in SC with a 28 year old daughter, quadraplegic/cerebral palsy. Mother died 12/04; stepfather has no custodial rights that we are aware of, and care is poor. Sister in NYS has arranged with NYS SSI for services to begin when she is able to bring disabled sister here to live in her home and be cared for here.
Question: Are there legal requirements or preparations to be aware of when arriving to take sister back to NY? Stepfather has agreed to release, but may post problems at actual time of transfer. Hard to say. Death certificate of mother is unavailable because funeral home has not been paid for services. Any help or advice is appreciated. Funds are minimal. Relying on donations from other family and friends to make this transport possible.
